I am closely following the advice from the Department of Health and my industry association.  For now, the advice is that all allied health professionals, including osteopaths, should remain open. At Qi, this means that we still have osteopathy, acupuncture and psychology services available. Sadly, yoga and pilates classes are not allowed, however, the teachers are busy working on online classes for you.

I have completed the Department of Health COVID-19 training and I am strictly following hygiene protocols.

Your health is my main priority, so I ask that you only attend an appointment with me if:

  • You have no symptoms of COVID-19 (sore throat, fever, cough, fatigue)
  • You have not recently travelled overseas
  • You have not been in contact with someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19, has symptoms of COVID-19 or has just travelled overseas.

If none of the above applies to you but would just prefer not come into Qi, I am still available to help you via Telehealth services where some treatments are approved for Bulk-Billing.

Treatment Options include:

  1. Patients can physically present at the clinic for hands on treatment, with patient and practitioner both strictly following Department of Health protocols;
  2. Patients can physically present at the clinic for assessment and advice, but choose to have no hands on treatment. Patient and practitioner both strictly follow the Department of Health protocols;
  3. Patients can choose to do Telehealth consults remotely via video link or by telephone. These can include personalised yoga/Pilates programs given from an osteopathic perspective and home ergonomic assessments for those working from home.


As an osteopath, I can do much more than just hands-on treatment, for example:

  • Acute injury advice (for example what to do if you can’t turn your neck).
  • Ergonomic assessment of your home office or home school set up – to make sure you and your children are as comfortable and pain-free as possible while at home. I can view your set up and give you simple tips on things to make it more user friendly.
  • Stretches, strength training and mobility exercises to help you prevent injuries, de-stress and maintain the benefits of any osteopathic treatment you may have been having recently.  These will be personalised to your specific condition. I will incorporate my knowledge of yoga, pilates and dynamic neuromuscular stabilisation in personalised advice for you.
  • General questions regarding your holistic health and advice on how best to optimise your health from an osteopathic point of view during this time.

In more normal times, Dr Tara Walker (Osteopath) practices Osteopathy and teaches private Yoga/Pilates. She is passionate about inspiring her patients to lead happier and healthier lives. Tara’s background in osteopathy, yoga and pilates, along with her extensive anatomy training, has given her an intricate understanding of the structure and function of the human body.

She was drawn to osteopathy because of its uniquely holistic, patient-centred approach. She completed her Bachelor of Clinical Sciences with a double major in Osteopathic Studies and Human Structure and Function (2014) and Master of Osteopathic Medicine (2016) at Southern Cross University, graduating as Dux in both courses. 

Tara has completed postgraduate studies in women’s health and pregnancy, paediatrics, rheumatic disorders and cranial and visceral osteopathy. She has also studied Neuroplasticity with Norman Doidge in 2016 and 2018, and Fascia and Kinesthetics with Thomas Myers in the US in 2017. She recently attended a Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation Intensive (2019) with the World Surf League Medical Director, Dr Chris Prosser.

Tara enjoys treating patients of all ages, from infants through to the elderly. Her particular interests are in women’s and children’s health. Drawing on the full breadth of osteopathic techniques learnt whilst at university, Tara uses a blend of soft/deep tissue massage, stretching, myofascial release, joint articulation and mobilisation, manual adjustments, balanced ligamentous tension, cranio-sacral and visceral osteopathy.

She is a caring practitioner, who listens attentively and likes her patients to feel genuinely heard. Osteopathic treatment may involve detailed case history, whole body physical assessment and diagnosis, hands on treatment and management advice. Tara has previously worked in senior corporate roles in Sydney and understands first-hand the physical and mental demands of this work. She has also rehabilitated herself from injuries including rib fractures and takes a particular interest in helping her patients optimise their breathing.

Tara has been teaching yoga since 2009 and pilates since 2015 in Sydney and Byron Bay. Her yoga training has included an Ashtanga Yoga apprenticeship with Trevor Tangye; a Yoga Synergy apprenticeship with Simon-Borg-Olivier and Bianca Machliss; a 200-hour Akhanda hatha yoga training on the Gold Coast; and a 100-hour Classical Kundalini training with Yogrishi Vishvketu in Rishikesh, India. She has also completed trainings in Restorative Yoga at Qi Health & Yoga; Advanced Vinyasa at Power Living, Kids & Family Yoga with Rainbow Kids Yoga in Byron Bay, and has studied asana and pranayama with Clive Sheridan. Tara has a Certificate IV in Polestar Pilates Mat and is undertaking the Polestar Pilates Diploma of Studio/Rehabilitation Pilates.

Outside of practice, Tara is actively involved in Permaculture, environmental and ocean care, and community health events on the Northern Beaches. She loves dancing, being in nature and surfing.
