Birthplace: Sydney, born and bred.
What’s your signature dish?
I rate myself as an amazing cook, haha! My schnitzel is world class and my baked beans win friends. My hot chocolate kicks goals as well. Everything I make is medicinal in some way. That’s how I eat.
Tea or Coffee?
I LOVE coffee but have it infrequently. I’m a tea fanatic.
Favourite café?
My own kitchen, hands down.
Cat or Dog?
Cat. We inherited an 8 year old Ragdoll and now live in a cloud of cat fur. We ‘lovingly’ refer to it as the catmosphere.
Star Sign? Scorpio
What quote do you live by? Reality is eleven tenths perception.
What Yoga style do you practice? Hatha and (life-changing) Yin.
How did you start yoga?
I was 25 when I started practicing yoga. I was in corporate at the time and it was a way for me to get out of my thoughts, a way to actually feel my body, recognising it as more than just a vehicle for my head. It made me whole again and was the only thing that truly brought balance into my world during that time. I’m sure this was the only way I was able to cope with the pressures I wore at work and the crazy hours I used to keep. Slowly but surely my life shifted and morphed into more and more of a balanced life, the more I did yoga.
Now I live it. Every day.
Can you sum up what Yoga gives to you in a few words?
Life. Movement in my body and freedom in my head.
When and where did you do your first Teacher Training?
I was a student of Qi for about 15 years. I’d started with Hatha at Freshwater Qi, then spent years practicing Ashtanga with Maurice. When Mysan introduced Yin to Qi, I pretty much attached myself to her – for about seven years. When Mysan offered her own Functional Hatha Teacher Training in 2018, I jumped at it.
Favourite pose?
The faithful Crescent Lunge and a long-held Sleeping Swan.
Least favourite pose?
Sirsasana (headstand)
If you could study with any teacher, who would it be and why?
I’m actually an advocate for learning with many teachers. While I attach myself to one teacher to learn as much as I can from them, the whole time in the background I’m learning the same topic from other people who teach in a completely different manner or philosophy. I think it’s the only way to truly learn, rather than just mimic.
Best in-class blooper? Laughing at my own jokes.
Lululemon or Dharmabums? lulu
Where would be your ultimate Yoga retreat destination?
Anywhere warm in nature.
What do you love most about your job?
Being a catalyst for change in people.
What have you given up to teach yoga?
Evening dinners with my husband.
What have you gained by teaching yoga?
Another avenue to love people. That fills me up more than I can put into one sentence.
If you could talk to your pre-yoga self, what would you tell her?
You are exactly where you need to be.
What hobbies/activities do you have outside yoga?
I don’t know if I can call ‘education’ a hobby, but that is what I do every single day. I study a lot. I do a lot of trainings and courses. I am a total geek.
How long have you taught at Qi?
Started 2019…not long enough!
