What Yoga style do you practice? Mat Pilates teacher – need to work on my yoga!
How did you start Pilates? When I moved to Australia, there was a studio down the road in Coogee and I thought I’d see what it was like to do as another form of exercise to running.
Can you sum up what Pilates gives to you in a few words? Pilates – I love that is works your full body, and the mindbody connection it takes and provides. Really having to focus. I always leave a class feeling way better and more energised than I did an hour earlier.
When and where did you do your first Teacher Training? Trained as a PE Teacher and Windsurfing Instructor in the mid 90’s (!); and qualified as a Pilates teacher from Polestar Pilates in 2020.
Favourite pose? Exercise – Boomerang
Least favourite pose? Push up – the constant goal!
If you could study with any teacher, who would it be and why? Jo Bezzina, a Polestar Educator in Sydney. Jo’s movement knowledge, cues and imagery are amazing.
Best in-class blooper? Counting to 100, always a challenge! 100-ish…
Lululemon or Dharmabums? Definitely Dharmabums. I live in their gear.
Where would be your ultimate retreat destination? Anywhere in the open air, hearing the sea.
What do you love most about your job? Always learning and experiencing the broad benefits of Pilates and seeing people improve their movement and wellbeing.
What have you given up to teach? Currently combining teaching with my corporate job.
What have you gained by teaching Pilates? – Refound my love for teaching and loving practicing more myself to keep learning to share with my class.
What did you learn during lockdowns? Slowing down, when you don’t commute how much more time there is in a day and the enjoyment you can get from the simple things.
If you could talk to your pre-teacher self, what would you tell her? You should practice pilates!
What hobbies/activities do you have outside pilates? Swimming, running, beach walks, going to gigs and travel (when you could!)
How long have you taught at Qi? I did some of my teaching practical experience at Qi and have been part of the team since March 2021.
