Family Mindfulness Three Week Course with Liz Taverner

Sunday 28th Oct 2018

“When you dance, your purpose is not to get to a certain place on the floor, it’s to enjoy each step along the way” – Wayne Dyer

Would you like your family to be more present, relaxed and connected? These creative workshops are designed to help you and your family fully enjoy the moment and thrive in life. They’ll be heaps of fun, while also teaching you powerful life skills.

To be mindful means to be fully aware in the now. With practice, we’re able to observe, accept and let go of thoughts, sensations and emotions, understanding that while they come and go, the true self remains constant. When you’re being completely in the moment is when you can experience profound joy, peace and appreciation. And bringing this approach into your life, and the life of your family, can have tremendous benefits.

This three-week course is based upon the themes of Connecting, Appreciating and Growing and will cover the foundations of mindfulness and its importance through family-friendly, active yoga and games; focused, collaborative arts and crafts; and calming, sensory activities and meditation.

The benefits your family may experience from practicing mindfulness include:

  • more positive relationships with each other
  • reduced stress
  • increased resilience
  • increased coping and self-regulation
  • reduced reactivity
  • reduced anxiety and depression
  • increased attention, focus and decision-making ability
  • increased self-awareness, empathy and self-confidence

With this modern world’s constant stimulation and distractions -and with one in four young people at risk of serious mental illness in Australia- experts believe it’s vital for children to learn mindfulness skills in order to cope and thrive. It’s important for parents to be on board too – research shows that parents and carers who practice being mindful around their children contribute to improving their child’s sense of self-worth and self-esteem. In fact, kids not only prefer to interact with mindful adults, but actually devalue themselves after being around mindless adults.

This course is run by Creative Therapist and Kids’ Yoga & Mindfulness Teacher Liz Taverner, who is passionate about helping children and their parents to live their best lives.
